Sweet Little Boys/ Blue Eyes!

Kyle still has blue-grey eyes. I think the other three had turned brown by now. I'm sure his will be some shade of brown eventually but I wanted to document them now!

Kyle - 2 months

Our sweet little guy is two months old already!

He has grown A LOT this month and no longer feels like a tiny newborn in your arms.

How are we doing?

Eating:
He is nursing well now.  I haven't used the shield at all for a few weeks.  He eats every 2-3 hours around the clock.  He usually gives us one 4 hour stretch in the beginning of the night but that's it.

Sleeping:
Up every 3 hours.  He is sleeping in his bouncy chair, as did all the other kids at this point.  He usually goes back to bed pretty quickly after eating.  I feed Kyle, then Victor changes his diaper and wraps him back up for bed.  He is swaddled and loves that!

Demeanor:
Kyle is a pretty content little guy.  He likes to be held a lot but I don't mind that.  He is a little more awake during the day than he was a few weeks ago.  He stares at us and often furrows his brow at us suspiciously.  We are yet to see any full force grins but he gives us half grins, enough to suspect he has at least one dimple.  Ha!

He is strong and holds his head up well.  He rolled over once from his front to his back.  This surprised everyone, including Kyle. :)

He has mild reflux but nothing that needs treated.  He spits up a little throughout the day but no huge vomiting or irritability.  I am SO shocked by this because all the other kids had definite issues with reflux by this point and were on meds (or needed to be -Erik!).  I am hopeful Kyle has inherited Victor's stomach of steel.  We'll see, reflux is usually worse at 4 months of age and then gets progressively better.

Kyle is well loved by us all!  Lainey is SO thrilled to have a baby is the house.  I so happy she is old enough to enjoy him.  All of the kids love him and wait in line to hold him.  Haha!  Erik got brave and walked around carrying him the other day. (This was not approved by a parent and quickly corrected although I found it kind of cute.)

I truly am so thankful for a sweet little baby!  I know this is my last baby but am already a little sad thinking about that!

Stats:
(I haven't taken him in for his 2 month appointment yet)
He's a pretty short little guy, I think.
He weighs almost 10.5 pounds now at 9 weeks.

I am happier than I appear in this photo but it's the only one I have
of me and Kyle, aside from the hospital ones!

Field Trip

Both Lainey and Erik had a field trip to the pumpkin farm.  Since it was Lainey's first field trip I thought I'd try and join them, if I could bring Kyle.  The teachers said that wasn't a problem. I wouldn't be counted as a chaperone but we could meet them there.  I thought about hiring a sitter for Carson but Victor said he could stay home.  Last minute, I decided it'd be more fun to leave both K and C with Victor so I was able to attend the field trip and just spend time with the big kids.   It was great!  Just having a a 4 and 6 year old is so much easier than having a 6,4,2, and 2 month old! :)

Here are a few photos from the day....

Erik and Lainey were quite excited to see each other!
Cute!!

Lainey has a set of twins in her class (actually 2 sets) that
we are friends with.  While the big kids were at the farm, the little boys
played with Victor.  Carson and D are only a week apart, both a bit spirited. Ha!

I decorated E and L's lunch bags today.
Erik noticed that I hadn't decorated my own.
When we left the house I found this.....

That's a heart, the cross, the earth, and a person (not sure who).
Cute little guy!!

My Three Sons

I sure do love these little guys!

Joyful Project

I don't think I have done a joy project post for almost 2 months now! I certainly have a lot to be thankful for (and a lot of photos to post) so I thought this would be a good way to update you on our current events.

237)  I love being a mom.  Certainly there are bad moments, plenty of them, but seriously when I have all four kiddos in the back of the van I just look at them and smile.  I'm so lucky they are all mine.

238) Beautiful weather - Since Kyle was born it has been just beautiful outside (minus a week of rain).
I walk for about 40 minutes with Carson and Kyle most days.  Carson spends most of it saying, "I don't want to go this way!"  He says that no matter which way we go! Haha!   He should be able to use the balance bike soon and then he won't have to ride in the stroller the whole way which will make him happy.

239)  Little Ninja's!

Erik has worn this costume almost constantly since getting it.
I can't describe how cute Carson is in this ninja costume!
His moves are hilarious!
He is such a big kid now!

240) My sweet little girl!
Lainey just loves school and her friends.
She is an eager learner and helper.
She's quite pleasant to be with most days.
THat being said the past two days have been full of whining!
I'm hoping it's just because she's a little tired (has napped 2 days in a row) but
I have gotten a lot of looks like this....

241)  A healthy body!

I have been able to run again.  I ran 20-25 miles a week until 11 days before delivering.
But then I stopped all physical activity for 4+ weeks due to the pneumonia and back pain.
I've been taking it slow but this week was able to run 22 miles and my speed is picking up.
I've been reminded again recently how fortunate I am to have a healthy body.

242) School!

My kids are learning a lot this year.  Lainey LOVES school.  Erik likes it but is always happy when they have a 3 day weekend.  I don't think Erik likes his teacher.  This is kind of "funny" to me because I was so pleased with the teacher he was assigned.  She's an excellent teacher but very strict and probably not a ton of fun all the time.  I'm kind of surprised by this because she is really friendly outside of school.  I'm also surprised it bothers him as his pre-k teacher was not warm and fuzzy and he seemed to really like her. Oh well!  He will likely learn a lot from her. :)

I am most thankful for school though because it has made this transition to 4 kids so much easier.  Erik is gone most of the day and Lainey 1/2 of the day.  Plus for the first time in many years I am not driving a kid back and forth to preschool multiple times a week.  It's been excellent and certainly made the transition easier than it would have been if Kyle were born in June.  (That sounds quite bad.  I enjoy having my kids home but when overtired taking care of 2-3 at a time instead of 4 is simply easier.)

Homework assignment done by Erik.....

Lainey practicing her numbers and alphabet, plus a drawing of Kyle....

243) A helpful husband - no photo available

244) Last but not least, this cute little baby!

What has brought you JOY this week?

Baby Pictures

Notable Quotes: Carson

Carson is a funny kid!  He really is a comedian and brings a lot of joy to our family.

Here are a couple of funny things he said recently.

I tend to get groceries and run errands on the weekends.  When I do this I try to take one kid with me (plus Kyle).  Carson was very excited to go with me last weekend.  Our first stop was Old Navy.  He was running around the store ahead of me.  He was delighted to find a package of monster underwear.  Not knowing they were underwear he ran over to me and said, " Mommy, mommy look these are for me!"  I responded, " Wow! Those are really neat underwear.  I'd love to buy them for you if you want to go potty on the toilet. "  He stopped dead in his tracks and very solemnly said, " MOmmy, these are NOT for me!" and promptly put them back on the shelf.   Hahaha!  There was a mom standing nearby who heard the exchange and burst out laughing.

(I have no idea how to potty train this kid.  He is not at all interested or willing and seems quite afraid of the whole idea.)

After going to Old Navy we headed to the grocery store.  I usually let the kids pick out one special item when they come with me.  Shockingly they often pick out things like Craisins, cheese sticks, dried apples, etc.  I put no limits on their choice.  Carson was excited to get to pick out a special treat and rather than dried apples decided to select candy corn.  (Pretty sure he'd never had them before but he was still excited about his selection.)  Later in the shopping trip he tried to convince me to let him pick out another bag of candy.   I responded, "Sorry Carson, we already have enough junk!"  He pointed to the bag of candy corn in the cart and said, "This junk Mommy?".  I said, " Yep. It's candy, a special treat, and not great for your body."  He replied loudly, " I REALLY like junk Mommy!"   Oh dear!

-----------------

I try to limit my intake of non-real food items.  So this means that we don't have any soda in the house.  I don't like coffee so that basically leaves tea as a source of caffeine.  After 7 weeks of getting up every 2 hours tea hasn't really been cutting it.   So Carson, Kyle, and I have journeyed to Starbucks a few times in the past few weeks as I can tolerate well-disguised coffee (although I realize this isn't any better for me than soda).  One day this week I asked Carson if he wanted to go and get some juice (his drink of choice at Starbucks).  He looked at me and said, " You need some toffee Mommy?"    Clearly we've been to Starbucks a few too many times.  Not seeing an end to my need for caffeine I decided that rather than frequent trips to Starbucks I needed to figure out how to replicate tolerable coffee at home.  I tried this a few times and failed.  So I decided what we really needed was an espresso machine at home.  Victor has never been happier.  Haha!  I will let you know how my quest to make well-disguised real-food coffee goes at home with my new shiny espresso machine.

Our little reader

Erik's reading has improved significantly.  This is the first time he'd read this book at home, although he said he'd practiced it at school.  I'm so impressed and love hearing him read!

Harry Reid: 'Why Would We Want To' Help One Kid With Cancer? Government shut down: Day 3

There is a little girl in our area who just found out her leukemia relapsed (again). She was lined up to participate in an NIH supported trial starting this Monday but the trial has been suspended due to the government shut down. You can see how concerned the "leaders" in this nation are about that.

Happy Birthday Dad!

We're all thinking of you even if my kids won't wish you a happy birthday!
