Doesn't look bad for a first try! Having it wet when you're braiding helps I think. Have you seen thewrighthair.blogspot.com She has cute ideas.
My sister-in-law also uses a website, I think. I will try to find out which one!
My recommendation is wet hair and a cartoon. I am guessing that Lainey's hair is fairly fine (aka slippery). If you wet the hair it is easier to grip, part, and braid tightly. And the cartoon helps to keep their head still for long enough to finish. It is a really good first try though. Go you!
